Event Name : ITU BG KITCHBUHEL
Event Date : 20 JULY 2008
Venue : KITCHBUHEL/ AUSTRIA
In Kitchbuhel today 2 HK triathletes Lee chi Wo and Tania Mak competed in the last Triathlon World Cup event before Beijing. The race was held over a 1500m-lake swim (2laps), 40k bike (8 laps) and 10k run (4 x 2.5k laps).
In the Male Elite category 57 triathletes from over 23 Countries competed in the event and in the Female Elite event there were 35 triathletes from 20 Countries. Many of the triathletes who have qualified for Beijing were in the event. Both Tania and Daniel were using this race as a warm up for Beijing.
Daniel had a solid swim and came out near the front of the 3rd pack in 28 position, which was only 30 secs behind the leader. On the bike he worked very hard to pull the third pack up to the first and second pack. After 5 laps all the packs came together to form a first pack of over 40 triathletes. Daniel looked strong on the run and he finished in 31st position.
Tania had a personal best swim because she swam with the 2nd pack in around 26 position. She stayed with the 2nd pack throughout the bike and had fast transitions. She had a solid run and finished in 26 position out of 33 triathletes.
